This Is the No. 1 Public Golf Course in Florida

  • GolfPass released its annual list of the best golf courses in every state.
  • ChampionsGate Golf Club—International in Orlando came in at No. 1 for Florida, a state known for its golf courses.
  • It has two championship 18-hole courses.

Every year, GolfPass compiles its list of the best public golf courses in each U.S. state. Though it’s not just a team of pros picking their favorites. Instead, this list is chosen by the golf community, with players voting on their favorite courses, ensuring it’s a list you can trust.

And after submitting nearly 275,000 reviews online via the tee-time service GolfNow over the last year, Golfers’ Choice has named a new overall favorite course in every state, including Florida, a true all-levels golfer’s paradise.

According to the findings, ChampionsGate Golf Club—International in Orlando’s Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate has emerged as the golfer favorite.

As Golf Orlando explained, the International Course at ChampionsGate Golf Club (which has a greens fee between $225 and $240) is a «links-style course more reminiscent of the British Isles or a ‘Down Under’ coastal course,» designed by Greg Norman—a fitting design reference considering the ex-pro hails from Australia. The course is home to «sprawling greens and wind-swept dunes,» making it one of the most breathtaking courses in both the state and the nation.

Golf Orlando added that it’s a course that offers a little something for everyone, from wide-open fairways to pot bunkers filled with Bermuda grass just waiting to eat your golf ball for lunch. «With 18 of the most dramatic holes in the state, strategy is key to conquering the International, consistently ranked among the top resort courses in the country,» it said.

And, again, it’s not just professional reviewers who love this spot. GolfNow pulled out one user review, who wrote, «[We] decided to play this course at last minute. The staff was wonderful. Friendly and very helpful. Practice facilities are great. The carts are very nice. Tees, towels, water, and GPS included. Couldn’t ask for more. The course is gorgeous. Definitely gives that feeling of playing overseas. Scenic and tough. Foot into the rough and ball is gone. Must be accurate, or you’re in trouble. Tees are good and clean, fairways are good, and greens are really nice. Greens are fast, which I prefer. Absolutely beautiful and recommended.»

However, it’s not the only course getting rave reviews. It’s joined by Herons Glen Golf & Country Club in North Fort Myers in second on the top 25 public golf courses list in Florida, followed by Waldorf Astoria Golf Club in Orlando, Deer Island Country Club in Tavares, and Streamsong Resort—Blue Course in Fort Meade, rounding out the top five.
