Visiting Hillsong Bali and Chilling at Mercure Kuta Bali before Departure 🙁

This post is part of our travels from Singapore to Brisbane (via Bali with Jetstar – $425 per person) and returning via a stopover in Bali (Brisbane to Bali via Jetstar – $300 per person). The last leg from Bali to Singapore was via KLM at a surprisingly affordable price of $79. This made the return flight from Singapore to Brisbane a rather affordable total of $800 SGD.

Too soon, it was the last day of our travels in Bali during this Brisbane/Bali trip. On day 11 of our travels to Brisbane/Bali, we would be visiting Hillsong Bali after having visited Hillsong in Brisbane just a week earlier.

We woke up earlier to ensure that we were on time for church this morning. Started the day with an Iced Americano from Alphamart (15K IDR – $1.5 SGD). Kate noticed that all the other fancy coffees such as iced latte with brown sugar was also priced at 15K IDR. However, as we were on intermittent fasting, we stuck to our Iced Americano. Disciplined!!!

We brought it to the beach to do our Quiet Time this morning. For those who are not aware, Quiet Time is Christian-speak for reading the Bible and communing with God. During QT, we learnt about pride but almost immediately, Tom made a comment about the surf instructor being not impressive with his surf. 😑 As with the morning before, it was nice to sit down by the beach, watch the surfers in action while listening to the waves and enjoying the morning breeze. An aunty wanted to sell us jewelry by the beach while we were there. Tom had to use Google translate to say “She won’t wear” repeatedly, before she got it.

At about 8:45am, we took Grab (40K) to Hillsong Bali. As the service was in Bahasa Indonesia, we downloaded the seinheisser monitor app to provide translation during service. During the worship, we sang “Firm Foundation (He Won’t)” by Cody Carnes – one of Kate’s favourite song. The topic this morning was about

Abundance – Reference John 4:14
“But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Pastor then moved on to touch on the story of Job. For the uninitiated, Job was a very rich and prosperous individual but God gave satan permission to test this servant of God. Though his wealth, his livestock and his family members were taken from him – even his own body had skin infection and boils, but he did not follow his friend’s recommendations to curse God. In the end he was proven to be faithful and everything that he had lost was returned to him twice as much. Pastor then touched on how Job had lived in abundance and

1. When we have abundance – we need to distribute the abundance we have to bless others.
– Jesus also gave up heaven’s glory to come to earth and through His death on the cross, we are blessed to receive eternal life and salvation.

2. Know to whom you share the abundance.
– Jesus knew his sacrifice on the cross was for us all.

After church, we bought a flat white from the Church Cafe called Comma for 28K IDR ($2.5 SGD). One thing we noticed was that Hillsong Bali is now run by locals, with local Indonesian pastor and also have service in Bahasa that reaches the locals. A perfect example of church planting. Thank the Lord!

Back at the hotel, we headed to Ginger Spa at level 4 (12pm) for our massage. The massage was ok but of the 3 full body massages that we had during this trip, this was probably the one with the worst technique. Tom thought Sheraton Shine Spa’s was the best while Kate enjoyed the Fave Hotel’s Herbal Spa. But at 275K IDR ($25 SGD) per person, the massage at Mercure Kuta Bali’s Ginger Spa was still considered decent.

Mercure Kuta Bali Infinity Pool – Jimbaran Seafood Platter (130K)

After checking out, we chilled by the infinity pool of Mercure Kuta Bali and had the Bali Hai Bucket of 4 beers (160K IDR), the beef rib (180K IDR) and the Jimbaran seafood platter (130K). Bali Hai was surprisingly tasty – had a distinct taste which we enjoyed. As for the food, the beef rib was superb. Chunky meats with the fattiness of the beef infused with the smokiness of the BBQ. As for the Jimbaran Seafood Platter, it was ok only – a little ex for the small quantity though all of which were relatively tasty.

At 4:15pm, we left Mercure Kuta Bali and as expected, there was a traffic jam throughout the ride. The fare was 50K IDR, about half the price when we came. We arrived at the airport at 5pm and you’ll have to clear a scanning machine before entering the area with the airline counters – something that is very different from the usual airports that we fly from. However, the KLM counter for the 8:35pm flight was not yet open when we arrived. Thankfully, we had checked-in online and mobile boarding pass were available – as adviced by Kate. Always listen to your wife!

Hence, we didn’t have to wait for the check-in counter to open before we entered the transit area. Once inside, we headed to Flight Club and ordered set B & D (Hainan Chicken Rice and Trio Mushroom Spaghetti) with almond and chocolate croissant. Kate’s favourite!
