From solo to family traveler: Adapting your travel style for kid-friendly adventures

Traveling with kids doesn’t mean you have to forsake your love for travel and adventure by staying within a resort as against exploring the world from outside with children in tow.

Families have described that some of the most memorable adventure holidays they have enjoyed were with kids, so if this still makes you nervous, here are some tips to ensure that your next holiday should be a kid-friendly adventure.

Avoid long journeys

Long road and airline journeys can be tough and exhausting on the younger generation, so plan your mode of transport carefully.

On your next vacation cruise with your family, try one of the many cruises that offer loads of kid-friendly activities and entertainment, suitable for all age groups.

Modern cruise ships have engaging kids clubs and high-octane water parks, plus a diverse range of activities for older adults and grown-ups, including fitness centres and entertainment.

Moreover, cruise ships have redesigned their cabin configuration and have come with spacious rooms with a dedicated kids’ area as well as connecting rooms to keep the entire troop happy.

Don’t avoid adult spaces

There is a common misconception that when traveling with young children you need to avoid certain places which may be of interest to you, but not to them.

Nothing can be further than the truth as many experienced travelers have reiterated that even kids enjoy cultural and historical spots, albeit in their own unique way, and even if they don’t comprehend the importance and history of the place.

So next time, take them with you to each and every place you love to visit and let them find their own fun way of exploring the area,

They may not appreciate every church or cathedral you visit like an adult would, but in the years to come they may recollect the joy they had while climbing the narrow steps to the top, or simply relive the thought of having visited the place when young.

Pace yourselves

While your package itinerary may be full of activities catered mainly to adults, it is but natural to assume that the kids won’t be able to keep up with them.

But kids also need some downtime for themselves, so to ensure a smooth trip it is essential to travel at their pace. My advice is to plan one unstructured activity per day and set aside time to relax with them.

Consider spending extra time at destinations they like and allow them in explore and discover it at their leisure. Stop at local parks to balance the adventure activities with restful moments, or simply hang around the pool.

When planning a full day outing, make sure to schedule breaks for kids to stretch their legs and recharge, even if it is having a quick snack at a scenic point.

You can even turn this breaks into mini-sightseeing trips by exploring nearby attractions as sometimes even a small quick detour can lead to something truly memorable.
