10 Summer Trends to Shop Before the Season Ends

In the few days since July ended, I’ve said, “I can’t believe it’s already August” more times than I can count. The summer flew by, but I’m rejoicing in the fact that the season’s not over yet. In fact, I’ve only just begun to wear some of summer’s biggest trends—and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. 

From crochet dresses to garden clogs, I’ve hunted down the fashion trends I’ve spotted everywhere this summer. Now, I’m sharing the 10 top trends to try before fall creeps in. Keep reading for the staple styles and elevated accessories I’m shopping ahead of summer’s last vacations, all under $50. 

Trend: Crochet Clothing

Crochet clothing is one of summer’s biggest trends, with crochet dresses, tops, and matching sets spotted at every vacation spot. I finally gave in and purchased a pair of denim bermuda shorts, and I can’t stop wearing them. When fall comes, I’ll pair them with a sweater and boots—although for now, pairing them with a simple tank and my favorite sandals has become my uniform. For a more sophisticated pair that can be worn in any stylish destination, I’d opt for these pleated Hotouch Bermuda Shorts. This “cushiony and comfortable” pair looks so much more expensive than its $40 price tag, and multiple reviewers are comparing it to a designer $1,020 version.

Trend: Linen Button-ups

Linen clothing comes back each summer, but it has been especially popular this year. Brands have released so many unique linen pieces, and I’m definitely taking advantage of the selection while it lasts. In particular, I’m snagging some pastel linen pieces that have been especially trendy this year. This Karlywindow Button-down is made of a cotton-linen blend that one reviewer called “lightweight, comfortable, and breathable.” I plan on throwing mine over a swimsuit or pairing it with white jeans for a timeless look.

Trend: Jelly Shoes

I’ve gone back and forth on jelly flats, but I’ve decided I can’t let this trend simply pass me by. Amazon is the perfect place to try out the trend for less, and I love this mule pair that will set you apart from the pack. They have a unique silhouette that feels both elevated and playful, and one reviewer called them “super comfy and easy to wear.” Plus, they look just like the $225 pair that countless fashion people are wearing this summer. If you prefer a more traditional jelly flat, the Vorisvina Ballet Flats are a great option.

Trend: Silk Scarves

Remember a few years ago when everyone was creating make-shift tube tops out of silk scarves? This year, fashion people are taking a more elevated approach to this timeless item, wearing it as a headscarf, bag charm, and even a sarong at the beach. Ever since «garden clogs» went viral thanks to the Crocs Dylan Clogs, I’ve been itching to buy a pair. Reminiscent of the sturdy, easy-to-slip-on shoes worn while gardening, they’re perfect for rainy days and summer adventures, since they’re waterproof and so easy to clean. The Bigant Garden Shoes are nearly indistinguishable from pricier brands, and they’re “super comfortable to wear for long periods,” according to one shopper. Pair them with maxi skirts or baggy jeans for an on-trend summer look.

Trend: Embellished Handbags

I’m kicking myself for not jumping on this trend sooner, but lucky for me, it’s not too late to do so now. Embellished handbags are my favorite accessory trend of the season, and I’ve spotted so many options with shells, beads, and sequins. This $26 version has intricate sequin embroidery that creates a beautiful floral pattern, plus a stylish wooden handle. It’s perfect for carrying just your essentials on a night out, although it can be styled for daytime, too.
