From my many visits, I found that Montreal’s creative spirit shines through its hotels too. From boutique hideaways in Old Montreal to Insta-worthy sleek modern towers with rooftop views, these are my favorite unique places I’ve stayed in the city….

This boutique hotel really charmed me with its exposed stone walls and vintage character with chic modern design, all in a sought-after Old Montreal waterfront location!

It featured rustic-chic decor with exposed brick and stone walls, beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, and elegant vintage-inspired furnishings and a warm, romantic, and effortlessly sophisticated with I really loved! 

My standard guest room featured a plush bed with premium linens, exposed stone walls, a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, and a modern bathroom with upscale toiletries. I especially liked the large arched warehouse windows which framed picture-perfect views of the St. Lawrence River! 

Other stand-outs were the rooftop terrace which came with cozy fire pits and its location in the heart of Old Montreal – I was handily just steps from the waterfront, lively cafes, boutique shops, and the Notre-Dame Basilica.

My favorite highlights…

  • The rooftop terrace was the perfect spot to enjoy a Vieux-Port Sour — a velvety blend of local rye, fresh lemon, and a hint of maple syrup — while taking in the stunning views of the Saint Lawrence River!

This stylish boutique hotel was a unique gem for being housed in a restored 18th-century building with just 10 uniquely designed modern rooms and an intimate, highly personalized boutique experience.

I discovered contemporary-chic decor with exposed stone walls, rich wood accents, modern furnishings, and warm, ambient lighting and a vibe that felt intimate, stylish, and upscale yet relaxed at the same time.

My guest room had a stylish blend of traditional and modern design with exposed brick walls, dark wooden beams, a cozy fireplace, a cushioned leather bed adorned with crisp white linens, a flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and a trendy coffee maker. My favorite feature was the striking floor-to-ceiling windows where I could easily gaze at the cobblestone streets below.

I started my mornings with the hotel’s complimentary gourmet breakfast served in its cozy stone-walled bistro and ended them dining on traditional Italian cooking on its hidden restaurant patio all in a central location in Old Montreal, just a short walk from the waterfront, trendy restaurants, and boutique shops.

  • Their enchanting wine cellar, with its cozy charm and rustic stone walls, felt like stepping into Old Town Montreal as I sipped on a light Chardonnay from Les Vignerons de Belœil!

I thought this elegant Old Montreal boutique hotel was a true gem, set in a historic 19th-century building with luxurious, character-filled rooms and a rooftop terrace boasting stunning city views.

Inside I saw decor was classic-meets-contemporary decor with striking wood accents, upscale furnishings, and warm, sophisticated lighting. It felt romantic, upscale, and timeless.

My guest room featured a queen bed complete with high-thread-count linens, exposed brick or stone walls, a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, and a marble-accented bathroom. I loved the large French windows that opened onto a charming wrought-iron balcony.

I sipped cocktails on the rooftop terrace at sunset over Old Montreal and the St. Lawrence River, and enjoyed creative European-Canadian cuisine at the onsite French Restaurant and Verses Bistro, all just steps from the waterfront and historic landmarks.

My highlights…

  • The complimentary L’Occitane en Provence toiletries – especially the zesty Verveine Shower Gel which woke me up each morning!

4. Humaniti Hotel

I was a big fan of this new lifestyle hotel which combinedcutting-edge architecture and a sleek contemporary design with curated art installations, a rooftop pool, and a holistic wellness-focused experience! 

Inside I found modern minimalist decor with clean lines, bold geometric accents, curated contemporary art, and nature-inspired sculptures created a striking, geometry-themed space. It had a sleek, cosmopolitan, and creative vibe! 

My standard guest room featured a plush king queen bed with premium linens, floor-to-ceiling windows, a smart TV, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, and a modern spa-style bathroom with luxury toiletries.

My room was spacious and light-filled contrasted with dark wooden accents and splashes of color. It featured luxurious bedding, air conditioning, high-speed internet, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a large flat-screen TV. The stand out feature was a striking floor-to-ceiling window with incredible cityscape views that looked especially photogenic at night!

I relaxed by the rooftop pool with stunning city views before ending the night with a craft cocktail in the chic lounge. The hotel also had no less than three impressive upscale restaurants, a café, a bar overlooking outdoor sculptures, a 9th-floor terrace, room service, a fitness center, a spa, a pool, and a charming gift shop. 

I loved its downtown Montreal location, just a short stroll from Old Montreal, the Quartier des Spectacles, and the city’s best dining, shopping, and cultural spots.

My favorite highlights…

  • The “Humaniti Experience” app – it was awesome how it let me set my room’s lighting, temperature, and music, and even order a fresh poke bowl with avocado and spicy aioli to my door—pure VIP treatment!

5. Hotel Monville

This was a sleek modern high-rise boutique which stood out for it hi-tech urban vibe and stylish, trendy design.

I found minimalist‑modern decor with a warm black‑and‑white monochrome palette, oak accents, and floor‑to‑ceiling windows that flooded each room with light, it felt cosmopolitan, high-tech, and refreshingly modern!

My guest room was home to a King-sized platform bed, wood-paneled accent walls, and subtle recessed lighting, a rainfall rain shower, a trendy Nespresso machine, flat-screen TV (with Netflix), Wi‑Fi, and a smart, space-efficient layout. The coolest part though was delivery robot (like a retro Roomba!) brings room service right to my door!

I adored lounging on the rooftop terrace admiring the city views, then grabbing a bite and a cocktail at the café, restaurant, or stylish bar. I also found an outdoor terrace, a 24-hour front desk, a gym, concierge and laundry service, Wi-Fi, and valet parking and a pet-friendly policy. 

I thought it was perfectly situated in the International District—just a short walk from the Convention Centre, Underground City,

My personal highlights…

  • Their Jazz Night was the perfect finale to a day of exploring, with soulful sax solos, smooth piano riffs, and a crisp cucumber-infused gin martini garnished with fresh mint!

I stayed at this is a luxury boutique hotel and found its unique charm lied in its dramatic contrast between the grand heritage façade and interiors of the 1880s mansion and the ultra-modern, high-tech rooms in the adjoining tower.

I really liked the decor here – it cleverly mixed opulent heritage details — marble floors, ornate woodwork, and crystal chandeliers and the vibe felt glamorous, refined, and wonderfully indulgent! 

My guest room featured floor-to-ceiling windows, a king bed with luxury linens, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, an HDTV with complimentary Netflix, touch-panel lighting, a trendy Nespresso machines, a marble bathroom with heated floors and a rainfall shower. I particularly loved the floor-to-ceiling glass walls in the bathroom that turned opaque at the touch of a button!

I sipped on a cocktail and dined on inventive, upscale British-inspired dishes with a Quebec twist in the hotel’s chic Bar George, set in the mansion’s wood-paneled former dining room with soaring ceilings and vintage portraits!

I appreciated its prestigious Golden Square Mile location – I was just a short walk from Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, McGill University, and upscale shopping along Sherbrooke Street!

My highlights…

  • I loved unwinding in their charming library, surrounded by an eclectic mix of books – I read “The History of Montreal” by Paul-André Linteau while savoring a creamy oat-milk maple latte and maple pecan shortbread cookies!

7. Hotel William Gray

This contemporary spot was in an excellent Old Montreal location, within walking distance of attractions, restaurants and even pretty cobblestone lanes! 

The rooms were categorized into standard rooms and suites, each with a simple or lavish decor. My room had a white-bedded platform bed, mid-century bentwood chairs, cute mustard yellow wingback armchairs and long, sleek tables!

They all had flat-screen TVs and Bluetooth; some had separate soaking tubs and views of the waterfront and Ferris wheel.

I loved checking out Maggie Oakes restaurant, the lobby bar, an Italian-style coffee shop and the lush full-service spa! 

My favorite highlights…

  • Dining on a fresh mushroom and arugula vegan pizza made from farm-to-table ingredients on their rooftop while gazing at stunning views of the iconic Notre-Dame Basilica!

8. W Hotel

This is a fun and fabulous party spot in the downtown region near attractions, retail areas, and restaurants. Montreal has many great things to do, but staying here is up there!

My funky, spacious room had a luxury bed, high-tech entertainment, a minibar, coffee/tea makers, free Wi-Fi, temperature control, an iPod docking station, flat-screen TVs, and accessible charging outlets.

I suggest visiting the on-site restaurant for its inventive fusion cuisine, which includes a combination of local and foreign ingredients, and the Living Room Bar for fabulous cocktails, darling!

My other favorite hotel highlights include a gym, concierge services, a 24-hour front desk, room service, valet parking, and the friendly multilingual staff.

  • I was absolutely wowed by the W Relaxation Ritual. This rejuvenating facial left my skin glowing and melted away my stress like magic – it was the perfect way to get me into that true vacation vibe

LHotel Montreal is known for its unique historic charm and combination of modern and luxury. Located in Old Montreal, it has a unique charm and an extensive art collection.

My room was spacious, with comfortable bedding, a private bathroom, air conditioning, flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, and a coffee/Tea Maker.

I’d recommend trying out the on-site restaurant, which offers a sophisticated dining experience with exquisite food in a modern atmosphere. Or sit at the bar to sip cocktails before exploring the best this beautiful city offers!

  • Opting for croissants drizzled with rich Quebec maple syrup at the à la carte breakfast! It was the perfect way to start the day of sightseeing!

You can explore key sights such as the Old Port of Montreal, Notre Dame Basilica, Sainte-Catherine Street, and the Museum of Fine Arts by walking or borrowing a free bike from the hotel.

There were 23 rooms with simple and beautiful design elements, including handmade furniture, patterned wallpaper, sumptuous velvet chairs, matte black steel and gold accents, and unconventional artwork. My favorite features were the whirlpool bathtubs, balcony, and yoga mat! 

The Salon Thomas serves breakfast, coffee all day, and snacks in the evening. It also makes a great workspace with lots of natural light and comfortable seating. My favourite highlight was the spa with a Turkish steam bath, plunge pool, lounge and outdoor terrace! Lush!

  • Sipping on the refreshing prosecco welcome drink while admiring the elegant grand staircase in the lobby – it was the perfect introduction to my stay! 

11. Hotel 10

I thought this was a sleek contemporary gem outside Old Montreal, close to neighboring attractions such as the Montreal Science Centre and Notre Dame.

The ultra-modern interiors were in a light color scheme of soft gray, cream, and pink dotted with tasteful black-and-white shots of sculptures or landscapes. My suite had a complete kitchen, coffee-making machines, 55″ flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, electronic safes, mini-fridges and individual temperature control.

You can get a complete breakfast buffet, a wine bar and nightclub, split into two separate spaces for dancing and drinking, and an open-air terrace.

My personal highlights…

  • Tasting the ginger essence blended with lime in their Montreal Mule was a fabulous addition to have whilst soaking up the stunning views of the city’s skline from their exclusive rooftop terrace – I absolutely loved that I could see the iconic sites of Mount Royal and Lawrence River.

12. Hotel Gault

This 4-star gem is located in Old Montreal near shops, restaurants, museums, and gorgeous old architecture! My room had a minimalist design largely in grey and white, wood cabinets, local artwork, loaner iPads, and a soft FLOU bed! Some suites had large patios and kitchens perfect for more extended stays.

The Gault’s restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, and lunch but not dinner. The breakfast was tasty, with fruit, crepes, pastries, omelettes, and bagels. I liked that it partnered with the adjacent Spa By Valmont, and dogs were also permitted (for an extra fee).

My highlights…

  • I loved that stepping into my room was like entering my own chic sanctuary. The spacious layout, extra-wide, high ceilings and tasteful, elegant decor made it an extra-special stay.

This award-winning chic abode is located near boutiques, restaurants, and tourist attractions such as the Saint Lawrence River, the Monteregian Hills, and the Sir George-Etienne Cartier Monument.

I was a big fan of the luxurious vibe they created here, with its white-on-white color scheme and details like wacky cushions and framed images of Vogue magazine covers!

My spacious room had high-end amenities like Egyptian cotton linens, loveseats, and framed historical Vogue covers. Marble bathrooms have separate showers and huge Jacuzzi tubs.

I’d highly recommend visiting the rooftop terrace, a lovely relaxing place during the warmer months. The on-site restaurant also includes outdoor dining and a stylish lounge area.

My favorite highlights…

  • When I arrived in my guest room I was enveloped by the enchanting scents of fresh flowers and sandalwood, making me feel like I had just walked into a luxurious home-away-from-home! 

14. Hôtel Uville

If you love everything retro, you’ll feel right at home in this groovy hotel next to a park called Place de la Grande-Paix, or Place of Great Peace.

There are views of the park, mod décor, essential lines, and nostalgic details such as avocado green furniture and a record player with vinyl records.

My room featured Hypoallergenic bedding, a memory foam bed, a shower with hydro massage, and Smart TVs with streaming services.

The hotel offers a free breakfast to go and a bar. Room service is delivered to your room every morning, or you may dine in the lobby or pick up a packed breakfast. 

My personal highlights…

  • I couldn’t get enough of the complimentary snacks! Savoring crumbly artisanal cookies and refreshing fresh fruits on tap brought an exciting, delightful twist to my stay that I didn’t expect! Personal touches count a lot!

15. Le Petit Hotel

Let quirky cafés, cobblestone streets, and historic residences surround Petit Hotel’s location in Old Montreal.

My room had a bright, contemporary design, exposed stone walls and dark-finish furnishings. Amenities included the Marshall Bluetooth speakers, flat-screen televisions, minibars, free Wi-Fi, USB connections, and individual temperature settings.

I also found continental breakfast and specialty coffee among the amenities and an off-site fitness facility at a sister hotel.

My personal highlights…

  • I took full advantage of the complimentary bike rental and made my way to the stunning Old Port. When there I took in the beautiful waterfront views, strolled along the charming cobblestone paths, and treated myself to a delicious chocolate crepe from a local food stall!
