New Zealand Launches The Easiest Digital Nomad Visa With No Income Requirements

Tourism is already one of New Zealand’s largest streams of revenue. However, the beautiful island country is broadening its scope by launching a digital nomad visa to attract long-term traveling workers.

The digital visa provides a lot of flexibility for workers who, under specific conditions, both travel and work routinely. NZ will join dozens of countries offering remote workers a chance to come and enjoy NZ without breaching any conditions of visitor visas.

Requirements of the Digital Visa

Getting a conventional visa requires stringent documentation and an often long approval process. Each country has unique criteria for their visas. However, a digital nomad visa streamlines the process if a traveler meets specific guidelines. In New Zealand:

  • You can work and visit for a total of 90 days
  • Your remote work cannot be for a company based in New Zealand
  • If self-employed, your clients have to be outside the country
  • Your work is part of a holiday or vacation excursion
  • Circumstances do not require workers to be in NZ to represent overseas companies
  • You’re not providing goods or services to clients in New Zealand
  • You do not have a physical workspace in the country

If any of the above criteria don’t match the guidelines for a NZ digital visa, you must apply for a conventional visa. And while there is no ceiling for earnings associated with the New Zealand digital nomad visa, any earnings still apply to current tax laws.

Digital nomad visas have become increasingly popular, offering remote workers the opportunity to live and work in various countries. Income requirements for these visas vary significantly by destination.

For instance, Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa mandates an income of at least €2,400 per month, with higher thresholds if accompanied by dependents. In contrast, countries like Mauritius offer more accessible options, requiring a minimum income of $1,500 per month for individuals. Uniqly, New Zealand, has introduced digital nomad visas with no specified minimum income requirement.

Remote workers in IT or social media influencers will appreciate the chance to promote their services and the chance to embrace New Zealand’s beautiful environments.

The nomad digital visa is an opportunity to visit Hobbiton movie locations or Queenstown’s sheep farms and majestic lakes while still maintaining your income.
