Boasting of an ideal ring shape, this administrative division of Maldives is the southern boarder of Central Maldives. The Laamu atoll is also known as Haddhunmathi Atoll, capital being Fonadhoo island. The atoll is abundant in barrier reefs through out that form island some places. Lagoons in here are of crystal clear water and come with less than 60 meter fathom. There are 82 island in the atoll with only a few them inhabited by locals. The rest remain vegetated and places for excursions. Population is estimated more than 12,000. Lending historical relevance, excavations found out some remnants of monasteries on some islands.
