Valley Hops Brewing located in Fortitude Valley Brisbane was where we chilled to enjoy some local craft beers after our lunch at Stone & Wood Brewery. One of the reason why Kate chose Valley Hops Brewing is because of its “rooftop” setting. The interior decoration seems to be rather inviting as well. As it was a cool late afternoon, we found the rooftop al fresco setting of Valley Hops Brewing to be rather inviting. There is also a classy place at the first floor of the building (641 Ann Street Fortitude Valley Brisbane) called Cloudland which has very interesting interior decorations as well. Next to it is the lift that takes you up to Valley Hops Brewing at the 6th floor.

Once you exit the lift, you’ll walk past the bar area. As it was fairly empty, we got seated ourselves and went back up to the bar again to grab a menu. As you can see from the photos, the entire area is filled with greenery. As Valley Hops Brewing is “outdoorsy”, they get plenty of sunlight, which is good for the natural growth of these plants. We also love the space and layout. You’ll find bar height tables, long tables for seated meals and cushioned seats and corners of Valley Hops.

Although Valley Hops Brewing is a rooftop bar, its views are rather limited. This is because despite being a rooftop bar, it is located at the 6th level which pretty much has views obscured by other buildings nearby. Nonetheless, at some angles, you’ll be able to see down to the streets below and of the city skyline nearby.

Valley Hops Brewing also has a full kitchen that sells small plates such as beef cheek croquettes ($20) and smoked chicken wings ($22) to large plates such as Angus pure flank steak ($38) and Valley Hops Burger ($24). They also have an extensive selection of wood fired pizzas including Quattro Formaggi ($24), Pepperoni ($24) and Mare e Monti (seafood pizza at $30).

Since we’re here for beers, their “evergreen” beers include

Exhibitionist (Tropical Ale – 4.2%)
– Best paired with a side of people watching. Our Exhibitionist Tropical Ale gives a nod to the Valley’s eccentric characters, screaming “look at me!” with its lively-fruit aromas and light, dry finish.

21 Pubs (Pale Ale – 5%)
– Our 21 Pubs Pale Ale gives a big “three cheers” to the annual fun-runners back in the 1990s. These fine specimens went the distance over 16 kilometres, stopp off at 21 pubs for a pot. A hard-working, medium bodied, yet refreshing and rewarding American Pale Ale.

Diehards Original (Lager – 4.5%)
A beer for the champs among us. Diehards Original Lager salutes our trusty local Rugby League Team: Valleys Diehards. Just like the players, this full-strength lager won’t let the team down.

Diehards Dummy Half (Lager – 3.5%)
– A stayer and true-blue team player. Diehards Dummy Half delivers thirst-quenching refreshment that goes the distance. A seriously sessionable mid-strength lager you’ll want to keep on side.

Interloper (Hazy IPA – 6%)
– From the misunderstood artist to the boundary-pushing entrepreneur, our Interloper Hazy IPA’s a beer for the misfits and the big-dreamers. This distinctive beer has a malty fullness, silky mouthfeel and citrus aromas.

Brisbane Rooftop Bar with a Chillax Vibe… — Valley Hops Brewing – Widow’s Weed (Oatmeal Stout) and 21 Pubs (American Pale Ale)

Widow’s Weed is an Oatmeal Stout and it was on discount at $10 per pint! If you head over to the bar, you’ll see some taps that hang a $10 sign – these are the beers that are on discount. Hence, we changed our orders to Widow’s Weed ($10) and 21 Pubs ($14). Both craft beers were good. Despite being on discount, we found the Oatmeal Stout to be robust and smooth to taste. As the kitchen was not to open till 4pm (we were there at 3:30pm), we just chilled and enjoyed the atmosphere – people watching a little. Where, we noticed that some parties actually ordered wines as well.

During our visit, we were also fortunate enough to enjoy a set by the the resident DJ who had really cool mixes. The fun part was also watching the DJ jiving along to his own tunes. Overall, we had a nice visit to Valley Hops Brewing. The beers were good and the atmosphere was definitely lively with the DJ vibing, laughters from the various parties and also the cool al fresco setting. If we’re back in Brisbane again, definitely a venue we’d visit, along with Cloudland at its first level. Enjoy!
