Checking into Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang, Chilling at Liquid Valley, Dinner at Cenang Beach Night Market and Catching the Perseid Meteor Shower!

On day 7 of our travels in Langkawi, we checked out from Dash Resort Langkawi and checked in at Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang. The Grab ride was 7RM but our room was not yet ready when we arrived. Hence, we chilled with our welcome drinks (2 glasses of Heineken draft beer) at Mercure Langkawi Cenang Beach before heading to our junior suite at level 8…

At about 1:30pm, our room was ready and we took the lift to level 8 to check out the Junior Suite at Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang

We were actually very impressed with the Junior Suite at Mercure Langkawi Cenang Beach. The room was really spacious with a foyer upon entry, a living area, a large toilet with rainshower bathroom, a king-sized bed as well as that amazing view of the Andaman Sea. When we entered, the decorations for Kate’s birthday was ready – peahen and peacock with flower petals. Not long after, a small cake was also delivered for Kate’s celebration! What attentive service!

What we enjoyed about staying at Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang is also its location, just minutes away from Cenang Mall, Cenang Plaza and Cenang Beach. If you’re upgraded to Junior Suite, you’ll also love the space and amazing sea views that it affords. Cable TV was good – pretty clear as compared to Dash Resort. We watched the movie Genie (starring Melissa McCarthy) till about 4pm before we went to the pool for a swim. We also had a margherita cocktail at the pool bar for 12RM – one of the cheapest we’ve seen in Langkawi…

In the evening, we started to get a little peckish, despite heading to Cenang Beach Night Market a little while later, we decided to have KFC first. However, because of the understaffing situation here, we waited for 40 minutes! A middle-eastern couple from London was also in the queue and we chatted a little. Found out that they would be travelling to Singapore after Langkawi and we gave some recommendations – Katong and Kampong Glam (Bali Lane) were among our recommendations. A stroll along the Singapore River in the evenings is a must as well. We also learnt that they were originally from Iraq and they told us that northern Iraq is pretty safe for travels, along with Kuwait, Turkey and Georgia. Good information there.

Before sunset, we dropped by Liquid Valley Langkawi again and had Mai Tai (25RM) as well as Double Face Jokers (28RM) – which was a rather instagrammable cocktail. Sad that the Frozen Peanut Crunch was not available though. Hopefully, they’d have it when we return next year!

As we walked along Cenang Beach during sunset, we saw another hotel above Oceanside restaurant that had sea views and Pelangi Grill at the end of the beach which had pretty nice decor. There were also several fire twirlers on the beach that entertained the guests.

We washed off the sand on our feet at Cenang Plaza before heading to Cenang Beach Night Market Langkawi. There are quite a number of stalls and we eventually settled on Fried Chicken (10RM) and Fried Kway Teow (9RM). We also stopped by Langkapuri Resort – though it had a rooftop but it didnt serve drinks nor have views of nightlife.

Thereafter, we bought some snacks from the duty free shop at Cenang Mall for about 140RM – including paddle pop ice cream and Solero Lime / Vanilla for 1.5RM!

This evening was also when Perseid Meteor Shower was to take place. Thankful that we were in Langkawi because we wouldn’t have been able to see it due to the bright lights in Singapore. As our room faced the sea and there was clear skies this evening, we had a pretty good chance. The only problem was that there were flood lights that illuminated the entrance to Cenang Beach. Nonetheless, we were able to see 3 “shooting stars” that fizzled out from the top to the bottom – slightly different from what we saw in Monterey years back.

We also managed to see an unique phenomenon of a half crescent moon descending over the horizon – or a moon set. It was bright at first, illuminating the waters at night then as it was about to set, it was a little darker, almost like a light reddish tinge. Our first “moon set”. We slept on and off till 4 am.

The next morning, we woke up at 8am and watched some Ellen re-runs as well as 50 First Dates that always make our eyes water. Left at 9:30am for Zus Coffee (Cham Oolong – 11.9RM and CEO Latte Boss Beans – 9.9RM)

After watching more movies like Minority Report and RIPD2, we took Grab to the Langkawi International Airport for 13.40RM, about 15 minutes away.
