Flood Update: Attractions and Travel Conditions in Northern Thailand


Flooding conditions across Northern Thailand have gradually improved. Most affected attractions have reopened, with only selected sites in Nan and Phrae still temporarily closed due to high water levels and post-flood cleaning.

Travel to all affected provinces remains possible by air, rail, or road—including to Nan and Phrae. Visitors are encouraged to check local conditions before visiting and plan accordingly.

Provinces with Attractions Still Affected

Nan
• Wat Phumin, Wat Ming Mueang, Nan National Museum, and Wat Phra That Chang Kham Worawihan (Nan Municipality)
• Wat Nong Bua, Tha Wang Pha District
• Wat Bun Yuen Phra Aram Luang, Wiang Sa District

Phrae
• Attractions in Phrae Municipality remain closed. Cleaning operations are underway before reopening.

Other Provinces with Temporary or Seasonal Closures

Chiang Rai
• Phu Chi Fa National Park – closed for seasonal maintenance (1 July – 31 August 2025)
• Rai Ruen Rom, Thoeng District – remains closed due to high water levels
• Mae Fah Luang University Botanical Garden – closed from 24 July to 31 August 2025
• Chiang Rai Airport – fully operational; no disruptions

All Attractions Reopened in the Following Provinces

Phayao
All previously affected sites, including Kad Lai Ta, Wat Inthan, Kwan Phayao, and Chiang Kham District attractions, have reopened.

Uttaradit
Phu Soi Dao National Park has reopened for tourism and accommodation.

Lampang
Wat Phra Phutthabat Sutthawat and Chae Son National Park are now open to visitors.

Lamphun
Doi Khun Tan National Park has reopened after the temporary camping area closure.

Mae Hong Son
All previously closed sites, including Tham Nam Lod Cave, Pam Bok Waterfall, and Su Sa Waterfall, have reopened.

Travel Conditions

Air Travel
Nan: Flights to Nan Nakhon Airport are operating as scheduled (Nok Air, Thai AirAsia)
Phrae: Limited direct flights; nearest alternatives include Lampang and Sukhothai airports
Chiang Rai, Lampang, Mae Hong Son: All airports open and accessible
Phayao, Lamphun, Uttaradit: Use nearby operational airports (Chiang Rai, Lampang, Sukhothai)

Train Services
• Normal operations to Lampang, Lamphun, Uttaradit, and Den Chai (for Phrae)
• No flood-related disruptions (State Railway of Thailand)

Bus Services
• Interprovincial buses to all provinces, including Nan and Phrae, continue to operate
• Minor delays possible due to residual road conditions; no suspensions reported (Transport Co., Ltd.)
