Great Africa Cycling Safari

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Chief Executive Officer, Juliana Kagwa, officially flagged off the 8th Edition of the Great Africa Cycling Safari (GACS) at the iconic Independence Monument in Kampala.

The ceremony marked the beginning of an inspiring 55-day, 6,000-kilometre journey across five East African countries—Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Kenya.

\Organised by the Pan African Federalist Movement in collaboration with the EAC Great Africa Cycling Safari, this year’s edition of GACS is championing a powerful message of peace, regional unity, environmental conservation, and food security across the region. While officiating the flag-off, Ms. Kagwa applauded the cyclists and organisers for using sport as a dynamic platform to promote East African integration, cultural exchange, and sustainable tourism.

She also reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to regional collaboration through tourism and people-to-people engagements. The cyclists are expected to traverse key tourist sites and engage with communities along the route, helping amplify messages on environmental stewardship and regional development.

Uganda is proud to be the starting point for this Pan-African journey of unity and resilience. The Great Africa Cycling Safari continues to grow as a symbolic event that highlights the potential of the East African region as a united destination for both tourism and socio-economic transformation.
