How to Get your RV Ready for a Road Trip

If you want to take your RV on the road then you need to make sure that you take the time to maintain it. If you don’t then you may run into issues on the road, which is the last thing you want when you are trying to enjoy a nice vacation.

Inspect

The first thing you need to do is inspect your rig. You need to make sure that there isn’t anything loose or that might need updating. If you can, you should book your RV in with your local mechanic as they can give your vehicle a good check-over, and they can also make sure that everything is working as it should. Although it can be difficult for you to pay for anything that might have to be done, right before a vacation, you do have to remember that it is a very good thing to do as it allows you to be safe on the road, and it also gives you an extra layer of security, as you know that you have taken all the right precautions before you set off.

Check your Seals

Once you have cleaned your RV and given it a good inspection, you then need to make sure that you check your seals. Now would be a good time for you to replace any caulking if this is required. Spring and fall are very good times to do this, as the weather allows the sealant to set properly. The windows probably need to be redone if you have not done this for quite some time. Water leak damage can be a big deal, so you need to make sure that you are proactive here and that you are also doing what you can to make sure that you are not overlooking things. Another thing you can do is take some sealant tape with you so you can replace or repair any patches on the go. Things like this can save your vacation, so keep that in mind.

Book Rest Stops

Before you go out on your RV trip, you also need to try and book some rest stops. Rest stops and RV parks allow you to relax and recoup, and they also give you the chance to inspect your RV on the go.  If you constantly camp at the side of the road, then you may find that you never quite have time to make repairs and that you also cannot stay on top of things as you go. If you book somewhere properly, then you can also take the time to check your tire pressure and make sure that everything is working as it should be. Small jobs like this might seem insignificant, but at the end of the day, when you are out and on the road, trying to enjoy your vacation, it can make all the difference.

So, it’s important to make sure that you maintain your RV before you go on vacation, and that you continue to maintain it on the road if you want a good experience.
