On day 6 of our travels in Taipei, it was time to bid farewell to the rest of the family as they were scheduled to depart Taiwan today. Typhoon Kong-Rey was to make landfall later in the day and it was to affect the flight back. Thankfully, with quick thinking by aunts and uncles as well as fast hands by Cousin J, the hotels and flights were booked and claims were made thereafter due to the typhoon. As for us, we departed at 1115 from Caesar Metro Taipei to Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館) in Bei Tou district in the north of Taipei. We were also thankful to be able to get a Uber ride as we were not sure how many drivers would be out there and willing to drive us further north. This ride helped us to reduce exposure to the rain, which we would otherwise have to bear while walking between train stations at Taipei and Beitou.
Upon arrival at Beitou, as we were still too early to check in at Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館), we left our bags at the hotel lobby and went out for lunch at the ramen store down the street – which again, thankfully was opened. We had a satisfying lunch at Mankewu Taiwanese Style Ramen (滿客屋台式拉麵) but because they had signs that mentioned phototaking are not allowed, no photos were taken this time. We had the Miso Char Siu Ramen (170NT), Clear Broth Char Siu Ramen (170NT), vegetables (60 NT), additional pork chop (90NT) and an onsen egg (35NT). A can of Taiwan beer (35NT) completed the meal. In terms of taste, the ramen was ok but the portion for the char siu was pretty generous. Enjoyed the onsen egg with its silky texture, balanced with the light soy sauce and spring onion. Vegetables had that homely taste, lightly seasoned and had a light crunch to it. The pork chop was firmly our favourite and reminded us of the Ding Tai Feng style pork chops but at affordable prices here. A good meal overall, especially when it was still raining out.

The rain also subsided a little after lunch and we walked to the park known as Beitou No.5 Park (北投五号公园) just a stone’s throw away. There’s a little pavilion there which would grant you a nice lookout of the vicinity as well. From there, we spotted a Hi-Life convenient store, which was to be our breakfast venue the next morning.

Right in front of our hotel, Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館) in Beitou, there is a bus stop with quite a number of buses that ply the area. The above are the bus routes and buses that ply the Beitou area near Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館).
Checking In at Deluxe Family Room Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館)

Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館) itself is not a particularly big hotel. There’s a small reception area, a cafe as well as a stretch that sells some souvenirs, jewelry and the likes. The check-in process was quite smooth and we were led to our room by the reception staff. Inside, was where our surprise awaited us…
Deluxe Family Room at Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館)

We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the Deluxe Family Room and Kate had meant for the room to be a surprise for Tom. At $300 a night, it was not particularly cheap but had an attached hot spring bath tub inside! Yup! You can soak in the waters of Beitou hotspring right in the comfort of your own room in Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館)! Reminded us of our stay at Konansou Mount Fuji Hotel where we had our private onsen bath with views of Mount Fuji as well. The bath tub is laid with concrete tiles which remains cool for areas that are not in contact with the hot spring waters. When the hot spring waters first comes out, you’ll see a murky colour which runs to clear, showing the minerals that are in this hot spring and indeed, our skin felt a little softer after each dip.
We were also thankful that we had the day here soaking in the hot springs of beitou in the private comfort of Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館) while hunkering down to wait for Typhoon Kong-Rey to pass. It was actually quite comforting to do so while the rains passed by with gusts of strong wind – a little bit like the feeling of hygge. Comforting to know that while we hear some tree trunks being uprooted (which we were to see the next morning), we were protected in the sanctuary of our hotel room. Likewise, in the midst of our troubles in this world, Jesus has said these words to comfort us, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”. Knowing that the God of creation, the Lord who loves us and sacrificed for us, continues to walk with us daily, does comfort us as well. Have you invited God into your life? If not, check out some of our gospel articles to learn how…

The other cool part about the in-room private hot spring at Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館) Beitou is that you will be able to still watch TV while soaking in the bath tub due to the glass that separates the bathroom and the bedroom. If you’re doing “business”, the curtains can be drawn for privacy as well. This time, we caught up on Pickers as well as Doraemon which were available on the TV cable network at Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館).

We also had our dinner of 花雕鸡面 instant noodles while hunkering down at Kyokusui Hotspring Hotel (曲水會館). We had bought it earlier, knowing that we would have to stay indoors today. Turns out that this 台酒 (Tai Jiu) brand of Hua Diao Chicken Noodles was exceptionally delicious! You could taste the richness of the soup and the chicken that had been infused into the taste. As a result, we also brought back quite a few packets of this noodles. While the 花雕鸡面 (Hua Diao Chicken Noodles) is sold in Singapore, it is about 40% cheaper when bought in Taiwan.
