Love the ambience and presentation but…

Sushi Hiro at Beachwalk Bali Shopping Center was where we visited on our last night of our travels in Bali. This evening, Tom had a sudden urge for something soupy. Browsing through the restaurants via Google map, the nearest for us seemed to be Sushi Hiro at Beachwalk Shopping Mall Bali. Hence, we dropped by Sushi Hiro Bali to satisfy Tom’s craving this evening…

Sushi Hiro is located at level 1 of Bali’s Beachwalk Shopping Center. As it is one of the few Japanese restaurants in the vicinity, it does get crowded – especially in the evenings. This evening, we were not able to get a seat immediately and had to place our names on the waiting list, before returning about 30 minutes to be seated.

Inside, we found the interior decoration to be modern, bright and classy. There are Japanese elements in its interior decoration including Japanese sliding doors (Shoji) and lanterns (toro). There were also a couple of bonsai, potted plants as well as a water feature that enhanced the overall dining experience for visitors.

What We Had at Sushi Hiro Beachwalk Shopping Center Bali

After browsing through the menu and discovered that many items were not available, we finally settled on the Kake Soba (50K IDR – $4.5 SGD) to first satisfy Tom’s craving for something soupy this evening. We also chose a couple of items, including the salmon mentai roll (120k IDR – $10.50) as well as the Beef Hobayaki (90k IDR – $8 SGD) to round up the meal. Green tea was at 12K ($1) per person…

First, the Kake Soba (50k IDR). There was actually nothing unique about it. The soup was slightly salty while the soba was a tad overcooked which made it a more on the soggy side. As for the Beef Hobayaki (90k IDR), it actually looked very beautiful and appetising, revealing the fatty bits when the beef slices were presented. It was also presented on the hoba leaf (Japanese magnolia tree) which infused a little more fragrance, especially when the leaf began to char a little under the flames beneath. However, in terms of taste, it lacked the taste of beef. Almost too bland in our opinion. This turned out to be a dish that looked good but didn’t meet the mark.

Lastly, for the Sushi Mentai Roll (120K IDR), it was probably the only dish that we enjoyed this evening. We should have known. As “Sushi” Hiro, sushi must be good, if not better than its other offerings. It was true in our opinion. The Sushi Mentai Roll was beautifully presented and when cut into the 8 portions, you could see the rice and ingredients such as kani (crab), kyuri (cucumber) and tamago (egg) within. The mentai and sauce that were layed over, made the dish more palatable – though we think the renditions in Singapore were definitely better.

@2bearbeartravel Tom had some cravings for hot noodles soup and we decided to hop over to #sushihiro . However, as most of their #ramen were not available, we had the #soba, #sushiroll as well as the #beef . The beef and soba were so so but the #sushi was good. Love the #ambience too! ☺️ #japanese #japanesefood #food #foodie #sgfoodie #foodtok #foodtiktok #2bearbear ♬ suara asli – 𝓹𝓲𝓴𝓪𝓹𝓲𝓴 – 𝐴𝑓𝑖𝑘𝑎 & 𝐾𝑒𝑟𝑖

All in all, we were glad that we got to experience the offerings at Sushi Hiro (Beachwalk Bali Shopping Center). Having tried the hobayaki, sushi roll and soba, we think that this could be a venue for sushi fans to visit. If you do the conversion to SGD, it is still rather affordable, given the classy environment that you’d be dining in. However, in terms of taste, there will be a huge discount as compared to what we normally have in Singapore. So we’d likely visit again only if we have cravings for sushi, in the vicinity of Beachwalk Shopping Center in Kuta Bali.
