Thaa atoll, otherwise known as Kolhumadulu atoll is an administrative unit in Maldives corresponding the same named geographical atoll. Capital being veymandoo, the atoll stretches over 66 islands of which thirteen are inhabitant islands and the rest majority lie uninhabited and lush vegetated being home to diverse animal species and plant varieties. The total population is measured to be 9,000. Some small islets are perfect for picnic and excursions. Island in the atoll are credited with historical importance since excavations have found out important remnants of Buddhist periods including a large ruined stupa.
