Rooftop Infinity Pool with Great Views at an Excellent Location!

Mercure Kuta Bali was where we nestled for a 4 night stay after our visit to Brisbane. Bali seemed like a great place to stopover not only to break up the 8 hours flight from Singapore to Brisbane, but also to revisit Bali when we last visited more than 10 years ago. One of the reasons we chose Mercure Kuta Bali was because of its location, right in front of Kuta beach. This also means that we’d be able to get unblocked sea views from its infinity pool and also splendid sunsets in the evenings. After our stay at Favehotel Kuta Bali, it was also a quick Grab ride (35k IDR – $3 SGD) to Mercure Kuta Bali.

Grab cars can enter directly to the lobby of Mercure Kuta Bali to drop off guests. But there will be a quick check by the security. So sometimes when we Grab a ride back to Mercure Kuta Bali, we’d sometimes just drop at the entrance so that the driver can be on his way. At the lobby of Mercure Kuta Bali, you’ll also be able to see the Odysseys Surf School where guests can pick up surfing. This is also something that we see has changed from the time we visited Bali all those years ago. Now, the entire beach stretch is strewn with surf schools. Instead of just offering drinks by the beach, many stalls along the beach also double up as Surf Schools or should we say, have transitioned upstream to become Surf Schools. Selling drinks by the beach are now but a side income for some stalls.

At the lobby, you’ll also be able to find the lobby bar. Known as Lotus Lobby Bar, Accor Gold and Platinum members will be able to get their welcome drinks for Mercure Kuta Bali. Members can also do so at the level 4 Sunset Pool Bar. The only difference is that Accor Gold members are only entitled to non-alcoholic selections such as Mocktails, Coffees and Soft Drinks. Hence, we chose drinks such as the iced latte for our welcome drinks this time.

After a quick check-in, we were happy to find that we were upgraded to the Deluxe Room with Balcony with our Accor Gold benefit

The Mercure Kuta Bali Deluxe Room was a spacious 27sqm with a double bed as well as a balcony. At the balcony, we were able to get a sliver of sea view. Not a complete view but we were still thankful for the upgrade. Shower was good and the TV had cable channels as well. Overall, a clean, spacious and comfortable room.

Mercure Kuta Bali Facilities – Rooftop Infinity Pool

After checking out our Deluxe Room with Balcony at Mercure Kuta Bali, we headed up to level 4 to check out the rooftop infinity swimming pool. And it turned out to be what it was touted to be…

At level 4 of Mercure Kuta Bali, you’ll be able to find a couple of facilities. Besides the rooftop infinity pool, the Sunset Pool Bar is found here as well. You can order drinks and food here. The food menu is actual offerings from Alang Alang Restaurant, also located on the same level to the back away from the sea. Lastly, the Spa of Mercure Kuta Bali (known as Ginger Spa) is also located here. During our visit, there was an offer of 275K for an hour Balinese massage at Ginger Spa, which we booked for our Sunday (there was a slight mix-up due to language barriers which we’d explain later – but no biggie).

Of course, the highlight has got to be the views by the infinity pool. It was also here that we chilled for several hours in the day and also during sunset hours…

As we stayed for 4 nights at Mercure Kuta Bali, one time, we bought beers from the bar and had burgers which we bought on our way back to the hotel. Remember to ask to confirm that you’d be able to do so. We asked this time and were able to do so as long as we bought drinks from the bar.

At other instances, we ordered food from Alang Alang Restaurant (Mercure Kuta Bali) through the staff at Sunset Pool Bar. This time, we ordered a Bali Hai Bucket of 4 beers (160K – $13.50 SGD), the Beef Rib (180k – $15.50) and the Jimbaran Seafood Platter (130K – $11 SGD)…

We enjoyed the Bali Hai beers which were refreshing – more refreshing we’d say than the usual Bintang. As for the food, the Beef Rib was superb. There were chunky meats with fattiness of the beef infused with the smokiness of the BBQ. Very well worth the price we paid – tasty, hearty and affordable. The Jimbaran Seafood Platter on the other hand was just ok because the portion was a little small with only 2 prawns, 2 small fish pieces, 2 clams and 2 sotong. A little expensive for such small quantity – though relatively tasty, especially with the sauces provided. (Chinchalok Sauce!)

Mercure Kuta Bali Ginger Spa – 1 Hour Balinese Massage for 275K IDR (25 SGD)

As mentioned earlier, Ginger Spa is the in-house spa of Mercure Kuta Bali. Do look out for offers during your stay as we were able to enjoy the 1 hour Balinese Massage for 275K IDR (or $25 SGD) per person. Prior to the start of the massage, there was a simple foot bath to get us ready for the treatment. As for the Balinese massage itself, we’d say that it was sufficiently good with the discounted price of 275K IDR. However, if it was the usual price, we’d think that it had fallen below expectations for a hotel spa. This time, it felt as though the masseuse was rushing through the treatment and “going through the motion” without thoroughly demonstrating the long flowing strokes that are synonymous with “Balinese massages”. Having done 3 full body massages and a foot massages during this particular trip, we thought Ginger Spa could have done a little better in terms of the Balinese massage techniques.

After treatment, there was a selection of teas for us to enjoy at the Lobby. This time, we chose the traditional Wedang Jahe (Java Black Tea, Ginger and Clove) as well as the Lemongrass Honey Tea. We found Wedang Jahe to be interesting – somehow, though it tasted slightly bitter, it warmed up the body and felt re-energising. Good stuff.

Although our room at Mercure Kuta Bali didn’t come with the buffet breakfast at Alang Alang Restaurant, we were given the 50% discount as Accorplus members. Hence, we paid 145k++ for 2 people or about $8 SGD each, which was a pretty good deal.

We enjoyed the variety of food at Alang Alang Restaurant for their breakfast buffet at Mercure Kuta Bali. There was typical Indonesian cuisine such as the fried rice, bee hoon, fish and chicken but also something for the kids such as eggs and sausages and western selection such as the pasta fusili, breads, pastries and cereals. There’s also fruits and salads which rounded up the meal. We thought in particular that the fruits were pretty good. Sweet, juicy and delicious. Yum! There was also gourmet coffee made ala minute when you put in the order to the staff by the coffee machine.

One of the highlights about dining at Alang Alang Restaurant at Mercure Kuta Bali has got to be the views that it affords. There are about 5 tables with views by the window that stares out to the sea views in the distance. Definitely uplifts the entire dining experience if you’re able to snag one of these tables.

All in all, we had an amazing 5D4N stay at Mercure Kuta Bali during our return leg from Brisbane. We particularly enjoyed chilling out at the rooftop infinity pool of Mercure Kuta Bali – while sipping on the refreshing beers or replenishing with the excellent cuisine from Alang Alang Restaurant. Buffet breakfasts at Alang Alang Restaurant (Mercure Kuta Bali) is also a thing, especially if you can snag one of the window seats with views out to sea which really elevates the entire dining experience altogether. The excellent location of Mercure Kuta Bali at the heart of Kuta, also means you are just minutes away by foot from the largest mall in Bali – Kuta Beachwalk Mall as well as many convenient stores in the vicinity. Mercure Kuta Bali would definitely be on top of our list during our future visits back to Bali!
