This post is part of our travels from Singapore to Brisbane (via Bali with Jetstar – $425 per person) and returning via a stopover in Bali (Brisbane to Bali via Jetstar – $300 per person). The last leg from Bali to Singapore was via KLM at a surprisingly affordable price of $79. This made the return flight from Singapore to Brisbane a rather affordable total of $800 SGD.
On day 8 of our travels in Bali, we remained in the vicinity of Kuta checking out the biggest shopping mall in Bali – Beachwalk Shopping Mall as well as probably one of the best rooftop bars in Bali – Afterglow Bar & Kitchen!
Mercure Kuta Bali Buffet Breakfast at Alang Alang Restaurant

We went for breakfast this morning at Alang Alang Restaurant (Mercure Kuta Bali). As Accor Plus members, we were given a 50% discount on breakfast. At the price of 145K++ IDR or $14 SGD for 2 pax, the buffet breakfast was very reasonable. The breakfast buffet spread at Mercure Kuta Bali included Indonesian cuisine such as fried rice, bee hoon goreng, chicken and fish. There’s also Western selection such as pastries, cereals, sausages and salads. Coffee from the freshly grounded coffee machine was pretty good as well. The best part of dining at Alang Alang Restaurant (Mercure Kuta Bali)?

The views out to sea!
If you are able to snag one of the 5 tables by the window that faces the infinity swimming pool, you’ll be able to enjoy your breakfast with sea views on the horizon. Great food and views for a perfect start to the day!

We left the hotel at about 9am and went first to Green Tea Spa – a few minutes away by foot, to see if we needed to make reservations for massage at 8pm this evening. The staff told us that no booking was required. So we continued to stroll along Kuta Beach, noticing that there were ALOT of stalls that tout surfing classes by the beach. The deck chairs by the beach had also upgraded to bean bag chairs for those who want to chill by the sea.

Enroute, we stopped by Sheraton Bali and made our reservations for a massage session at 10am the next morning at Sheraton Bali’s in-house Spa – Shine Spa. There was a promotion for a 75 mins couples massage for 800K++ IDR (~$80 SGD) which works out to be $40 per person. We also booked the 10am timeslot so that we could get an additional 20% discount, essentially removing the double plus of 21%, making the price closer to $70 SGD (or about $35 per person).
We spent about 2 hours at Beachwalk Shopping Center as there were many different shops here including Uniqlo, Miniso and H&M. There was also a cinema as well but we didn’t want to watch the new transformers cartoon nor Deadpool Wolverine (which we eventually did watch on an SQ flight later). We also wanted to try the ice cream at Venchi but there were no air-conditioned seats inside. At Miniso, we bought a MyMelody keychain with some facemasks that came up to 105K IDR or about $9.5 SGD.
@2bearbeartravel Visited #beachwalk Shopping Center, a short walk from our #hotel at #Mercure #Kuta #Bali . At Beach walk Shopping Mall, you’ll find loads of international brands such as H&M, Uniqlo, Coach, Mango, Zara and the likes. There are many food options and also a cinema with the latest movies ☺️👍 #travel #indonesia #travelbali #balitravel #balivibes #beachvibes #traveltiktok #2bearbear #traveltok #travellife #kutabeach ♬ Feeling Thankful – ARUM DEWI
Afterglow Bar & Kitchen – Probably the Best Rooftop Bar in Bali

Continuing our walk up north, we arrived at Tribe Hotel. Our destination? The rooftop bar of Tribe Hotel known as Afterglow Bar & Kitchen…

Our first impressions of Afterglow Bar & Kitchen was that it was modern with colours that Kate loved. The kitchen used an open-concept and even the backsplash was a beautiful chevron pattern. Lastly, the best part of the bar, the infinity pool at Afterglow Bar…

During our visit, we had the 1-for-1 drinks during their Tipsy Hours promotion from 12 to 4pm. The menu included:
Watermelon Spritz
(Aperol Infused Watermelon, Watermelon Syrup, Sparkling Wine, Soda Water)
Mimosa Jolley
(Vodka, Aperol, Apple Juice, Ginger Beer, Cucumber Fresh, Lemon Juice)
Love Bomb
(Vodka, Grape, Mint Spring, Blueberry Syrup, Lemon Juice)
Sparkle
(White Rum, Lychee Liqueur, Acid Solution, Blueberry Syrup, Sparkling Wine)
Creamy Maracuja
(White Rum, Passion Puree, Vanilla Syrup, Lemon Juice, Passion Cream)
Any 2 of these drinks would cost 119K++ IDR or ~$12 SGD, which was a pretty good deal. At 4pm, there was also a burger bundle that included a beer as well as either a chicken or beef burger for 99K++ IDR or about $10 SGD. During this whole time, we were chilling by the shaded part of the restaurant and dipping in the pool – this process repeated throughout the whole afternoon. One of the best part about the infinity pool at Afterglow Bar & Kitchen was that you could see the entire Kuta beach to the north and to the south. You could enjoy unblocked views at sunset and also surfers catching the waves. At about 6pm, another event occurred…

There was actually a OVO Tequila Event this evening! Guests were given a chance to concoct their own cocktails, using measuring instruments such as the jiggers as well as the shaking of the cocktails, before sieving into a cocktail class, complete with garnishing. The cocktails tasted great and the host was quite heavy-handed with the pours. So it was nice to sip on fantastic cocktails while watching the sun set in the horizon…

After catching the beautiful sunset and enjoying the infinity pool at Afterglow Bar & Kitchen, we think that it is probably one of the best rooftop bars in Bali because of (1) great cocktails at affordable prices (2) the infinity swimming pool and (3) one of the best beach views from a rooftop bar in Bali. Thereafter, we walked along Kuta beach all the way back to Green Tea Spa for our foot massage…

The foot massage at Green Tea Spa was the Balinese style with the smooth long strokes. No pain unlike the Chinese acupuncture style which can be unbearable at times. Hence, we pretty much enjoyed the foot massage here at Green Tea Spa Bali. As we came from the beach, we were apologetic about the sand that we brought into the spa. Nonetheless, Yanus our masseuse assured us that it was ok, giving us a quick wash of our feet before the treatment. Shiok!

On the way back, we checked out the Family Mart at Kuta Square. As it was located at Kuta Square opposite Yoshinoya, we thought that this area was like a “Little Japan” in Kuta. Inside the Family Mart, we had the Baso Spesial cup noodles. The water used by the staff was not too, so we had to wait for a while longer than usual. We also packed some supper back to our hotel for the evening.
